D-Biotin by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also called vitamin B7, this is a water soluble vitamin. This reagent is available as a white powder which is soluble in water, ethanol, more soluble in hot water and in dilute alkalis, however it is insoluble in other common organic solvents. It is composed of a ureido ring fused with a tetrahydrothiophene ring. It has a boiling point of 573.6 C and a melting point between 223 - 233 C. This coenzyme is required for carboxylase enzymes, and is also involved in the synthesis of fatty acids, isoleucine, and valine, and in gluconeogenesis. CAS No. 58-85-5 Quantity Provided: 500 mg per pack Molecular Formula: C10H16N2O3S Molecular Weight: 244.3 Soluble in water D-Biotin is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. It is widely used throughout the biotechnology industry to conjugate proteins for biochemical assays. As one of the strongest non-covalent interactions, the binding of biotin to streptavidin is commonly employed as the target molecular interaction in the research of biosensors and cell sorting. D-Biotin may be used to elute proteins from avidin/streptavidin resins. It is widely used for dietary supplements and fortified foods. It is also used for tablets and hard-shell capsule preparation due to its pharmaceutical properties.
