Diluting Fluid D is a suitable rinse solution for the membrane filter method utilized in validation tests for detecting bacteriostasis and fungistatic activity of pharmaceutical articles prior to conducting sterility test procedures according to the guidelines of the USP. The test sample is filtered and the membrane is washed with specific amounts of the rinse or diluting fluid. Then, this rinse is subjected to inoculation with a specified number of known bacteria and fungi as per the pharmacopoeia. The growth obtained is compared with a positive control to determine the presence of any fungistatic or bacteriostatic activity in the test sample.
