During the reactive dyes procedure, pure linters are suspended in water and reactive dye is added. The mixture is made alkaline for the reaction to start. The fiber pulp is centrifuged, washed to be electrolyte-free, and processed as pH paper. Paper produced in this way is bonded to plastic material in order to be used as a stick or strip. Some strips are produced by an impregnation which bleeds, and a certain portion of the indicator dye dissolves in the test solution during immersion.
