2-Methyltetrahydrofuran is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Few other names used to denote this reagent include, 2-Methyloxolane, Methyltetrahydrofuran, Tetrahydrosylvan and Tetrahydro-2-methylfuran. It is a highly flammable mobile liquid and may form peroxides. 2-Methyltetrahydrofuran is "inversely soluble" in water. It is also used as a solvent for Grignard reagents used in organometallic and biphasic chemical processes, because of the oxygen atom's ability to coordinate to the magnesium ion component of the Grignard reagent, or to azeotropically dry products.
