Acetaldehyde by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as ethanal, this is one of the most naturally occurring aldehydes. This reagent is available as a colourless liquid with an ether like odour, which is miscible with ethanol, ether, benzene, toluene, xylene, turpentine, acetone and is slightly soluble in chloroform. Ethanal is naturally found in coffee, bread, and ripe fruit, and is produced by plants. It can also be produced by the partial oxidation of ethanol by the liver enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase. It can be industrially produced by the oxidation of ethylene by the Wacker process.

Product Features:

  • Chemical Formula: C2H4O
  • Molecular weight: 44.05
  • Acetaldehyde has a wide range of applications in various sectors. It is an important precursor to pyridine derivatives, pentaerythritol, and crotonaldehyde. Urea and acetaldehyde combine to give a widely used resin. Acetic anhydride reacts with acetaldehyde to yield ethylidene diacetate, which is a precursor to vinyl acetate, that is used to produce polyvinyl acetate. It is an industrially important solvent and is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of a wide range of compounds. When oxidized it forms acetic acid and ethanol on reduction. The interaction of Criegee intermediate (CH2OO) with acetaldehyde has been measured.
