BARBITURIC ACID AR (For Molecular Biology) is a product provided by Research-Lab Fine Chem Industries. Laboratory reagents are chemicals which are used in laboratories as a part of experimental procedures. These reagents can be important parts of chemical reactions, analytical reagents or starting material for the production of other materials.
This BARBITURIC ACID is meant for Molecular Biology and is of analytical grade. It is an organic compound based on a pyrimidine heterocyclic skeleton. Barbituric acid can be synthesized from diethyl malonate, urea, and phosphorus oxychloride (POCl3). Barbituric acid has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. It is used to form a large variety of barbiturate drugs that behave as central nervous system depressants. This is facilitated by the Knoevenagel condensation reaction. Furthermore, Barbituric acid is one of four ingredients used to produce riboflavin (vitamin B2). Barbituric acid may be utilized in the preparation of the corresponding hemiaminals, via chemoselective reduction in the presence of SmI2/H2O reagent. It can also be used to synthesize 5-diaminomethylenebarbiturates by reacting with substituted carbodiimides.
