Boric acid by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as hydrogen borate, this is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron. This reagent is available as colourless crystals or white powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 170.9 C and a boiling point at 300 C. It can be prepared by reacting borax (sodium tetraborate decahydrate) with a mineral acid, such as hydrochloric acid. When occurring naturally as a mineral, boric acid is called sassolite. CAS Number: 10043-35-3 Quantity provided: 1 kg per bottle Chemical formula: BH3O3 Molecular weight: 61.83 Boric acid has a wide range of applications in biological and chemical industries. It is majorly used in the manufacture of monofilament fiberglass usually referred to as textile fiberglass. It is also used to treat or prevent boron deficiencies in plants and for the preservation of grains such as rice and wheat. Boric acid has been used as an insecticide for the control of cockroaches, termites, fire ants, fleas, silverfish, and many other insects. It can also be used as an antiseptic for minor burns or cuts and is sometimes used in salves and dressings, such as boracic lint. These reagents are suitable for industrial and research applications.
