High grade EE (Enterobacteriaceae enrichment) broth is supplied by Micromaster. It is available in the form of a light yellow to greenish yellow coloured homogeneous free flowing powder which has a pH in the range of 7 to 7.4. EE broth is a modification of brilliant green bile lactose broth, which in turn is a modification of MacConkey's liquid medium. This broth contains brilliant green and bile as the inhibitory agents for gram-positive organisms, glucose as the main energy source and an increased amount of buffer to control the inhibition of growth in the earlier stages of enrichment and autosterilization at the end. Peptone, di-sodium hydrogen orthophosphate, potassium di-hydrogen orthophosphate and distilled or deionized water are some of the other compounds present in this broth.

EE Broth, Modified is recommended as an enrichment medium for Enterobacteriaceae in bacteriological examination of foods and animal feed stuffs. Pancreatic digest of gelatin, dextrose allows the growth of most of the members of Enterobacteriaceae. Incorporation of brilliant green and ox bile makes the medium, inhibitory to non-Enterobacteriaceae. Lactose non-fermenters, anaerogenic lactose fermenters or late lactose fermenters may be missed by the standard Coliaerogenes test. To overcome this problem, lactose is replaced by glucose in the media.
