The unhindered growth of most of the members ofEnterobacteriaceaeis because of the components pancreatic digest of gelatin and glucose monohydrate. Brilliant green and ox-bile(purified) serves as agents that inhibit gram-positive bacteria. Phosphates act as a good buffering agent and neutralizes acids produced by lactose fermenters. Lactose has been replaced by glucose in this medium.
