Molybdenum trioxide is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Other chemical names for this reagent include, Molybdenum(VI) oxide, Molybdic anhydride and Molybdic trioxide. It is available in the form of white or slightly yellow to slightly bluish powder or granules. Molybdenum trioxide is very slightly soluble in cold water. Molybdenum trioxide is stable if stored as per the recommended conditions suitable for this metal. It is sublime at high temperatures. If exposed to excessive heat or flame it can generate hazardous decomposition products like sulphur oxides, sulphides and heavy metal oxides. It is advised to store this reagent in a tightly sealed container, in cool dry conditions. It is incompatible with alkali metals, most common metals and oxidizing agents. Molybdenum trioxide explodes on contact with molten magnesium. It also exhibits violent reaction with interhalogens (e.g., bromine pentafluoride; chlorine trifluoride) and incandescent reaction with hot sodium, potassium or lithium. CAS No. 1313-27-5 Quantity provided: 100 gm/bottle Molecular formula: MoO3 Molecular weight: 143.947 g/mol Assay: Minimum 99.5%Molybdenum trioxide occurs as the rare mineral molybdite. Major application is, as an oxidation catalyst and as a raw material for the production of molybdenum metal. Molybdenum metal is used as an additive in steel and other corrosion resistant alloys. It is also a component of the co-catalyst used in the industrial production of acrylonitrile by the oxidation of propene and ammonia. Molybdenum trioxide has also been suggested as a potential anti-microbial agent, e.g., in polymers. In contact with water, it forms hydrogen ions that can kill bacteria effectively.
