Morpholine is a high-grade reagent supplied by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries. Other chemical names used to denote this reagent include, 1-Oxa-4-azacyclohexane, Tetrahydro-1,4-oxazine Diethylene oxamide and Diethylenimide oxide. Because of the amine, morpholine is a base; its conjugate acid is called morpholinium. Morpholine is industrially produced by dehydration of diethanolamine with sulfuric acid. It is available in the form of a clear, colourless liquid with a characteristic amine odour (detectable over 0.1 ppm). Morpholine is soluble in water, has a boiling point of 128C and a melting point of -5C. It is stable as long it is stored as per the recommended storage conditions. Burning or prolonged exposure to heat or flammable sources can lead to the formation of hazardous decomposition products like carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. It is incompatible with Cellulose nitrate, nitromethane, other nitro compounds, strong acids, and oxidizing agents. Morpholine is corrosive to metals. CAS No. 110-91-8 Quantity provided: 2.5 Lt./bottle Molecular formula: C4H9NO Molecular weight: 87.122 g/mol Assay: Minimum 98.5%Morpholine is a common additive (in ppm) used for pH adjustment in fossil fuel and nuclear power plant steam systems. Morpholine is used because its volatility is about the same as water, so once it is added to the water, its concentration becomes distributed evenly in both the water and steam phases. Morpholine undergoes a greater number of chemical reactions than other secondary amines, though the presence of the ether oxygen withdraws electron density from the nitrogen, rendering it less nucleophilic (and less basic) than structurally similar secondary amines such as piperidine. For this reason, it forms a stable chloramine. It is commonly used to produce enamines. Morpholine is also used as a chemical emulsifier in the process of waxing fruit.
