High grade Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is supplied by Micromaster. It is available in the form of cream to yellow homogeneous free flowing powder which has pH in the range 5.4-5.8. This product should be stored below 30C in a tightly closed container. Once opened, it should be properly stored, after tightly capping the bottle. Due to the hygroscopic nature of the product, there could be chances of lump formation which can be avoided by proper storage. Store in dry ventilated area protected from extremes of temperature and sources of ignition.

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is used for the cultivation of yeasts, moulds and aciduric bacteria from pharmaceutical products using the microbial limit testing in compliance with the harmonized methodology of USP/EP/BP/JP. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is Carlier's modification of the formulation described by Sabouraud. Dextrose provides an energy source. Peptone (Enzymatic Digest of Casein and Enzymatic Digest of Animal Tissue) provide the nitrogen and vitamin source required for organism growth in SDA. Agar is the solidifying agent.Chloramphenicol and/or tetracycline may be added as broad spectrum antimicrobials to inhibit the growth of a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Gentamicin is added to further inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria.The neutral pH of the Emmons modification seems to enhance the growth of some pathogenic fungi, such as dermatophytes.
