Acetone cyanohydrin by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is high grade reagent. This compound is a derivative of the acetone compound, which is a simple ketone. The reagent is available as a colourless liquid with a pungent, floral, cucumber like odour, which is miscible in water, benzene, diethyl ether, methanol, chloroform and even ethanol. This compound is produced by reacting sodium cyanide with acetone, followed by acidification.

Acetone cyanohydrin has a wide range of applications in various sectors. This compound is used in the production of methyl methacrylate, the monomer of the transparent plastic polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), also known as acrylic. Acetone is often used for thinning polyester resin, cleaning tools used with it, and for dissolving two-part epoxies and superglue before they harden. Acetone is also used to synthesize Bisphenol A, which is a component of major polymers such as polycarbonates, polyurethanes, and epoxy resins. In laboratory applications, it is used as a polar, aprotic solvent in a variety of organic reactions, such as SN2 reactions.
