ANTHRONE (for synthesis) is a product provided by Research-Lab Fine Chem Industries. Laboratory reagents are chemicals which are used in laboratories as a part of experimental procedures. These reagents can be important parts of chemical reactions, analytical reagents or starting material for the production of other materials.
This ANTHRONE is meant for synthesis and is of laboratory grade. This organic compound is a tricyclic aromatic ketone. It is insoluble in water. Anthrone can be synthesized from anthraquinone by reduction with tin, glacial acetic acid and hydrochloric acid. Anthrone has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. This compound is used for a popular cellulose assay and in the colorimetric determination of carbohydrates. Various anthrone derivatives are used in pharmacy as laxatives. It is used to determine streptomycin quantitatively. This is possible from the ability to reduce aldehyde containing reducing sugars such as streptose and N-acetyl glucosamine present in streptomycin, into acids. It is additionally used to measure the sugar content such as sucrose and trehalose in liquid media. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
