Barbituric acid by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as malonylurea or 6-hydroxyuracil this is an organic compound based on a pyrimidine heterocyclic skeleton. This reagent is available as a white crystalline powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 245 C and a boiling point of 260 C. Barbituric acid can be synthesized from diethyl malonate, urea, and phosphorus oxychloride (POCl3). CAS No.: 67-52-7 Quantity Provided: 25 gm per bottle Molecular formula: C4H4N2O3 Molecular weight: 128.09 Assay: Minimum 99 % Analytical grade reagentBarbituric acid has a variety of applications in chemical and biological sectors. It majorly used to form a large variety of barbiturate drugs that behave as central nervous system depressants. This is facilitated by the Knoevenagel condensation reaction. Furthermore, Barbituric acid is one of four ingredients used to produce riboflavin (vitamin B2). Barbituric acid may be utilized in the preparation of the corresponding hemiaminals, via chemoselective reduction in the presence of SmI2/H2O reagent. It can also be used to synthesize 5-diaminomethylenebarbiturates by reacting with substituted carbodiimides. This reagent is suitable for industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
