It is additionally used to stain the nucleus, and is furthermore a component of Lactofuchsin, used for Lactofuchsin mounting. Basic fuchsin is combined with sulfurous acid to produce Feulgen reagent or Schiffs reagent. This mixture is used to stain chromosomal DNA.
