Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate by Research Lab Fine Chem Industries is a high grade reagent. Also known as Iron(II) sulphate, this is a sulphate salt of iron. The reagent is available as a crystalline bluish green powder which is soluble in water. It has a melting point of 60 64C at which it decomposes. The heptahydrate salt of ferrous sulphate can be naturally found as the mineral, melanterite. While it is stable under general conditions, this reagent is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. As a reducing agent it is utilized in the reduction of chromate in cement to less toxic Cr(III) compounds. Ferrous sulphate has been used to manufacture inks, especially iron gall ink. It is additionally a beneficial reagent in the identification of mushrooms. Ferrous sulphate has further been used in gold refining to precipitate metallic gold from auric chloride solutions. This reagent is suitable for the industrial synthesis of products and research applications.
