The fermentation of dextrose, lactose, and H2S production is highly suggested for the differential recognition of gram-negative enteric bacilli from diagnostic, therapeutic, and, non-clinical samples. Kligler Iron Agar tends to create a distinction between lactose fermenters and non- fermenters.
