Sodium sulphate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as sulphate of soda, this is a salt of sodium and sulphate. This reagent is a white powder which is soluble in water. This form of anhydrous sodium sulphate salt is known as the rare mineral thenardite. Sodium sulphate does not react with most oxidizing or reducing agents at normal temperatures, and is hence, very stable. Industrially, sodium sulphate can be produced during hydrochloric acid production, from sodium chloride (salt) and sulphuric acid, in the Mannheim process, or from sulfur dioxide in the Hargreaves process.

Sodium sulphate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. This anhydrous form of sodium sulphate is widely used as an inert drying agent, to remove traces of water from organic solutions. The salt has been used in protein crystallization. It has been used to investigate prion protein folding. It is a reagent used in large-scale applications such as dyeing and printing textiles, and the manufacture of glass and paper pulp. Other applications for sodium sulphate involve de-frosting windows, starch manufacture, as an additive in carpet fresheners, and as an additive to cattle feed.
