Tryptone Yeast Extract Medium with Sterile Membrane Filter is supplied by HiMedia. It is a ready prepared media containing a pale coloured dry filter membrane pad of 50mm diameter. Tryptone Yeast Extract Medium is generally used for the estimation of microbial counts in water. It is advisable to store this ready prepared media between 10-30C. Composition (in gm/L) is as follows:

Casein enzymic hydrolysate (6.00)

Yeast extract powder (3.00)

Agar (12.00)

DriFilter Membrane Nutrient Pad Medium is a ready to use sterile culture media. It is available in the form of a 50 mm biological inert absorbent pads soaked with Standard Plate Count Medium medium, then dried and sterilized in 55 mm petri plate. They obliterate the need of arduous media preparation and autoclaving procedures. The nutrient pads just need to be re-wetted with sterile distilled water prior to use. These nutrient pads allow larger sample volumes to be tested at a time. Interpretation of results can be directly done by counting the CFUs and by quantifying the microbial load present in the sample. Tryptone Yeast Extract Agar is formulated as described by ISO committee for the enumeration of viable microorganisms in water. Casein enzymic hydrolysate and yeast extract supply nitrogenous compounds, vitamin B complex and other necessary growth nutrients. Total colony forming units (CFU) from the water samples to be tested can be obtained either by spread plate or by pour plate technique.
